BUDS offers dance classes at a range of levels across a variety of styles, designed to suit anybody who loves to dance! You can attend as many classes as you like, choosing from many different disciplines, such as Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Hip-Hop, Contemporary, Commercial, Tap, Musical Theatre and many more, each offering classes at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Classes are run by the students of the society in locations across the campus.
Each class costs £2 for members and £3 for non-members. Membership fees are only £7 for the year.
Our sell-out annual show takes place in the Spring Term, in which all members have the opportunity to take part and show off what they have been learning throughout the year. Students can attend classes during the second semester in order to build to routines which will be performed in the show.
The society also has five dance squads. This year’s styles are Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary and Hip-Hop. The squad members are chosen following auditions at the beginning of the academic year, and train every Wednesday afternoon. The purpose of the squads is not only to represent BUDS at events at Birmingham University, but also to compete in competitions across the country against many other universities – and hopefully to bring back a trophy or two! See our squad page for more information.
